Welcome to Random Thoughts from Melissa. Today I'm going to complain. Occasionally I must get something off my chest. Today is one of those days.
There has been much weeping and gnashing of teeth regarding Facebook and the new timeline format. Myself included. In a recent post I called the May 4th forced switch "craptastic" followed by abhorrent, abominable,
appalling, awful, beastly, cruel, detestable, disagreeable, disgusting,
dreadful, eerie, execrable, fearful, frightful, ghastly, grim, grisly,
gross, gruesome, heinous, hideous, loathsome, lousy, lurid, mean,
nasty, obnoxious, offensive, repellent, revolting, scandalous, scary,
shameful, shocking, terrible, terrifying, ungodly, unholy, unkind. I must thank http://www.thesaurus.com for having such choice words at the ready.
Timeline in of itself is irksome. I'm not big on change to begin with. I cried, CRIED, full on boo-hooed when I traded in my 1999 Ford Escort with 170,000 miles in March of 2009 for my Honda Civic SI. Who does this? The dealer thought I was off my nut. I still get a little misty when I see similar cars. But I digress...
Tonight I decided I wanted to update my profile picture. Hardy har har. You can upload pictures into new albums, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to add a picture to an existing album. I consider myself fairly tech savvy. I can normally figure computer type thingies (technical term there) pretty easily. After my normal poking around, I couldn't figure it out, so I resorted to help. Here is what I found
Facebook's own help file says to use the upload button on the right.
Hahahaha. Facebook, you are so funny. There is no longer an upload button on the top right corner. I think your developer guru's missed something. In fact, I think your testers also missed something.
Here is my unsolicited advice Facebook. No one likes timeline. I can't recall seeing any posts praising this technological break-thru. I have seen A LOT of complaining. Why don't you put things back they way they were, you know, working. Go back to the drawing board and develop something that doesn't enrage your users. Remember what happened to MySpace? People didn't like all the pedophiles, so they ran to you. Watch out, make enough of us mad and we'll move onto the next social media site (maybe Google might be in a position to win...probably not).
Whew! I feel better all ready. And there you have it dear readers, my Random Thoughts for today.
Until Tomorrow - Melissa
Too funny...I couldn't figure out how to add photos to mine for the longest time ever, then I just sort of accidently clicked in the right place and finally started to add them again. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know the secret? Do tell!
ReplyDeleteAny time I hear that a website is "upgrading," I cringe! In all my years as an Internet user, I've only seen things go downhill after an "upgrade" takes place. Yahoo mail. Livejournal. Myspace. And of course, the new Blogger interface, which makes me want to cry. I shall stick to the old interface until it's literally pried from my hands. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo I'm not excited about Timeline, and I think you're right to complain. Especially since the Facebook people don't seem to be listening to anyone! It's like user-friendly is a four letter word.
PREACH it Sarah! I'm right there with you especially with the blogger interface. I think it's pretty funny this jewelry designer has screen shots proving their directions are wrong. Maybe Facebook would hire me to do their testing. I can break stuff, no problem.
